Writing for Mass Media, JMC 2033, is one of the most important courses you will take at the Gaylord College. You must pass this course to continue on with your path to becoming a member of the journalism world. This course is known to be very challenging and will need a significant amount of your time. It will also test you on your grammar and punctuation skills, which are vitals to have in any occupation you choose to follow in journalism.
This is a three-hour introduction to journalistic writing course taught by Professor Kathryn Jenson White. This course consist of a lecture and a lab both meeting twice a week; attendance couldn’t be stressed enough for this class. If you miss more than four classes in either the lecture or the lab you will receive a failing grade and be kicked out of the class. A quiz will be given out at the beginning of each lecture, failing to come to class or arriving after the quiz is over you will not be aloud to take the quiz therefore receiving a zero on the quiz and an absence for the day. It is extremely easy to fall behind in this class; so it is best to constantly check you course schedule and get to know your TA, do not be afraid to ask them questions. Whether a certain lecture’s discussion pertains to your major or not it is all very important to learn and should be taken seriously. This course will teach you how to write clear, well thought out and factual pieces for all types of media.
