The difficulties with language use are often overlooked. Because language is used by everyone, everyday, it is easy to see why the harm it can produce is ignored or not fully grasped. People may say things without realizing the consequences. Words can be misinterpreted or misconstrued. Either way, the sender of a message needs to understand the importance of sending it clearly, that way the receiver has no issues interpreting it.
In other words, language use needs to be respectable and sensitive because different cultures and communities have different grasps on it. What may not be offensive to one person could really influence and hurt another. Language cannot be spoken with assumptions because not everyone is on the same page with everything. There are many issues with word choice when it comes to deciding diction. If it was not such a big deal, there would not be several different texts noting several hundred words to avoid when involved with journalism. Different people find different words offensive; therefore, the best way to resolve the issue is to put everyone on the same page and avoid using anything and everything that can be considered harmful to someone's feelings.
