Just the Facts

Journalistic writing is concise. Academic writing, on the other hand, tends to be more verbose and include less carefully selected words because the writer has the time and space to include phrases that are not necessary.
Eliminating the extra can be difficult. I find it challenging to find the strongest possible verbs and nouns without starting to editorialize. No personal opinions allowed; the writer must be invisible in news writing.
As a person who has always seen writing as a form of self-expression, that concept is strange. However, as I practice this style, I find there is something very freeing about only presenting the bare-bones facts. Clean, simple, no fuss, no hassle.
