Practice to be had

As a reader of magazines and novels, I enjoy creative, exaggerated and lengthy writing meant to be absorbed from beginning to end. In journalism writing, it is better to be to the point, honest, off the personal details, and the most important information needs to be at the beginning to inform a reader.
Academic reading, unlike journalism, has a thesis, body paragraphs and conclusion. Journalism doesn't repeat itself completely at the end of the piece, and is attempting to report rather than persuade.
Adapting to multiple styles takes practice in each, and because I had only had academic or creative writing classes in the past, there is still a lot of practice in my future for mass media.
