The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association and what it can do for you!

The website I chose to look at was the Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (www.nlgja.org). The reason why I chose this website is because most people don't think about the Gay and Lesbian community. But it is a community first and foremost, no matter who agrees and disagrees with it. The NLGJA's website lists five goals: The want to enhance, strengthen, advocate, collaborate, and provide for LGBT journalists.

The NLGJA makes their website a place for an abundance of resources for the LGBT community. There is an area where they report fair and accurate coverage, how to get involved with a chapter, their national convention locations, past and present, resources where you can find news stories, a link to their official twitter, photographs, etc. Also, they list job opportunities, multimedia, workplace campaigns, and student opportunities to get involved.

This was the first time that I had viewed this website and I realized that this community makes an impact on the world as a diverse community. They want their news reported as all news should be, fair and accurately.

Their campaigns in the workplace are proving that diversity is an important issue and if the news is to be reported fair and accurately by all accounts, there should be people of different backgrounds doing the reporting.

While the LGBT community may not sit well with all people, they are still people and have news values important to them. So, they will continue to report and make their impact continue to grow.
